Community members stepped into the spotlight to help fundraise for a local sexual assault center Friday night.
Mary’s Place Sexual Assault Center of the Coastal Empire hosted its Fourth Annual “Find Your Voice” Lip Sync Competition at Victory North.
The event brought local leaders and community members together for a night of music, entertainment and advocacy.
Organizers said participants waltz out of their comfort zones, performing high-energy routines to raise thousands of dollars for the nonprofit.
“It warms my heart, because a lot of these people, they’re not performers, of course, and they are really stepping out of their comfort zone just for Mary’s Place,” Executive Director Doris Williams said. “And the reason we call it, find your voice, because we want our survivors to find their voice through their healing journey and for our prevention education.”
The event also featured a silent auction and crowd voting. Winners took home the “Crystal Mic” and “Crowd Favorite” awards. WSAV’s Kim Gusby served as one of the judges.
